Melbourne International Film Festival 2022
The Melbourne International Film Festival is the most significant screen event in Australia, since 1952 and holds the mantle of being the Southern Hemisphere’s largest and longest-running film festival.
MIFF’s 2022 in-cinema program will showcase its 70th anniversary addition from the 4th to the 21st of August. That's 18 days of premiere showcases, international features, exclusive screenings, commissioned works, panel discussions, industry events, live talks and XR experiences for cinephiles of all tastes and persuasions.
The festival will host screenings in Melbourne’s CBD and at suburban sites as well as throughout regional Victoria. Beyond cinemas, MIFF Play – the festival’s streaming platform – will also return with a selection of films from the program, available Australia-wide.
This year's program will also help catapult rising talent with the launch of the Bright Horizons Competition, the winner of which will receive a $140,000 prize.
And a raft of special events will be happening across the state. That includes Hear My Eyes at the Astor Theatre, a re-scoring of iconic Aussie crime drama Chopper by Bad Seeds member (and multi-instrumentalist) Mick Harvey. At Hamer Hall, Orchestra Victoria will perform scores from beloved Victoria-shot films like Mad Max and Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Bluey's creator Joe Brumm will appear in conversation.
